Clothing retail improves rewarding efficiencies

Read how this retail clothing giant with almost 200k employees worldwide enriched its rewards and recognition program with Xoxoday's user-friendly solutions.

Challenges

The client had an internally developed system for their Human Resource management process. However, they faced multiple challenges with the implementation of their employee rewards vertical.

  • Cash-based Rewards: The rewards were provided in cash form, which was distributed along with the employee's salary. This cash mode of rewards did not allow employees to receive the entire reward value due to a flat tax rate charged on the reward amount.
  • Logistical Complications: The distribution of the reward amount over the employee's salary imposed logistic complications. Each time an employee was rewarded, it was a tedious process to coordinate with multiple teams - namely, the salary processing team, the winners, and the HR-BP team.
  • Reduced Reward Value for On-site Employees: For on-site employees, the value of the rewards got reduced due to currency conversion rates and applicable taxes, diminishing the actual value of the rewards.

Evaluation Process

The HR team conducted employee surveys every six months to understand the requirements of the employees. The reward mechanism was identified as an issue during these surveys. The HR team proposed a solution of creating point-based rewards to resolve this issue. The client chose Xoxoday for the following reasons:

  • Excellent Customer Service: Xoxoday had a track record of excellent customer service with another business unit. The client conducted a pilot run during which Xoxoday excelled in their customer responses and services.
  • Simple and User-friendly Solution: Xoxoday's solution was simple and made the rewards process highly efficient. The multistep overheads related to reward allocation, tax processing, and salary processing were reduced to a maximum of two steps for reward allocation.
  • Global Rewarding Mechanism: The points mechanism and support for multiple currencies made Xoxoday highly convenient for international rewarding. Since a considerable number of the client's employees were appointed overseas, they needed a solution that accommodated their expat employees.

Solution

Xoxoday's provided a points-based rewarding system with multiple reward options, including experiences, gift vouchers, and perks. This enabled the client to offer a wide variety of rewarding and redemption choices across different categories like performance-based winners, tenure awards, manager awards, and team awards.

By leveraging Xoxoday's Empuls, the client achieved the following benefits:

  • Multiple Reward Options: Increased overall participation in reward programs for both off-site and on-site employees due to diverse reward choices.
  • Tax Savings on Rewards: Employees could receive and redeem the full reward value without flat tax deductions.
  • Increased Rewarding Efficiency: Reduced interdepartmental coordination and an increased number of peer-to-peer and manager nominations (52% of employees nominated, 10% won awards).
  • Ease of On-site Rewarding: On-site employees could easily redeem localized rewards based on their interests and geography, leading to higher participation.

Results

The client conducts "litmus score" tests - employee surveys that determine the efficiency of the HR initiatives and lead to deciding the initiative targets for the HR team for the next quarter. These tests have proven that a majority of the employees are in favor of the Xoxoday program. The HR team also received direct responses from employees that spoke of its advantages. Xoxoday Empuls has truly improved the way and efficiencies of rewarding for the client.
