Azure Data Lake

Sync Xoxoday activity data
into Azure Data Lake Storage

Land Empuls recognition, Plum reward, and Loyalife transaction data in ADLS Gen2. Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, and Power BI all consume Xoxoday data from the lake.

What you can do

Four things you can do once Xoxoday data is in ADLS

Azure Data Lake Storage is the lakehouse foundation. Xoxoday adds the reward and engagement layer so Synapse, Databricks, and Power BI see the complete picture.

Xoxoday engagement data in Azure Data Lake Storage

Empuls, Plum, and Loyalife data in ADLS Gen2
Empuls recognition events, Plum reward sends and redemptions, and Loyalife point transactions flow into Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 on a configured schedule. One lakehouse layer for all Xoxoday data.
Raw event data in standard formats
Xoxoday exports data in standard JSON or Parquet formats compatible with the Azure analytics ecosystem. No proprietary format to decode before analysis can begin.

Part of your Azure analytics stack - Synapse, Databricks, Power BI

Azure Synapse Analytics queries Xoxoday data natively
ADLS acts as the lakehouse layer so Azure Synapse can query Xoxoday recognition, reward, and loyalty data using Synapse SQL or Spark pools - without moving data out of the lake.
Databricks notebooks and Power BI connect directly
Azure Databricks notebooks read Xoxoday data from ADLS for ML and advanced analytics. Power BI connects via Synapse or directly to ADLS to build dashboards on engagement metrics.

Flexible schema for any analytics use case

Raw event data - transform any way you need
Xoxoday data lands in ADLS as raw event files. Your data engineering team applies any transformations, schema changes, or enrichments needed without Xoxoday-imposed constraints.
Delta Lake and Parquet compatible
ADLS Gen2 is the standard backing store for Delta Lake on Azure. Xoxoday data files are compatible with Delta Lake table formats, enabling ACID transactions and time travel on engagement data.

Scheduled data sync keeps the lake always current

Hourly, daily, or pipeline-triggered sync
Configure the sync cadence from the Xoxoday side to match your Azure Data Factory or Synapse pipeline schedule. Hourly near-real-time loads or daily batch refreshes - both are supported.
No manual exports from the rewards team
Once the pipeline is configured, Xoxoday data flows into ADLS automatically. Analysts always work with fresh data without waiting for a manual CSV export from anyone.

Use cases

Who runs it, and what for

Three ways analytics, people, and engineering teams use Xoxoday data in Azure Data Lake.

Data & Analytics

Lakehouse analytics on reward and recognition data

Analytics engineering teams land Xoxoday data in ADLS and expose it as Delta tables or Synapse SQL views. Downstream consumers - Power BI, Databricks, and custom apps - query Xoxoday metrics alongside every other enterprise dataset.

People Analytics

Synapse queries on engagement and recognition events

People analytics teams query Xoxoday Empuls recognition events in Azure Synapse alongside HRIS data already in ADLS. Join recognition frequency with attrition, performance, and headcount datasets using Synapse SQL.

Data Engineering

Databricks notebooks for ML on engagement data

Data science teams read Xoxoday reward and recognition event data from ADLS into Azure Databricks notebooks. Build ML models that predict attrition risk or reward program effectiveness using Spark on raw Xoxoday event streams.

How it works

From Xoxoday API to Azure Data Lake Storage

Step 1

Configure Xoxoday API credentials

Generate an API key in the Xoxoday admin panel. This credential authorises the Azure Data Factory pipeline or custom connector to pull data from Xoxoday.

Step 2

Set up ADLS Gen2 container and path

Create a dedicated container and folder path in your ADLS Gen2 account for Xoxoday data. Configure your Azure Data Factory pipeline or ETL tool to write to that path.

Step 3

Schedule the data export

Set the export cadence in your Azure Data Factory pipeline, Synapse pipeline, or ETL tool. Xoxoday data files land in ADLS on the configured schedule.

Step 4

Connect Synapse, Databricks, or Power BI to the ADLS container

Point Azure Synapse, Databricks, or Power BI at the Xoxoday folder in ADLS. Query raw files directly, register as external tables, or apply Delta Lake formatting for full lakehouse capabilities.

Setup

API integration. Azure Data Factory or Fivetran.

Pull from the Xoxoday API via Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, or Airbyte. Land data in ADLS Gen2 on your schedule. Synapse, Databricks, and Power BI connect after that.

Integration type

API / custom integration - pipe data via Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, Airbyte, or a custom connector.

Authentication

Xoxoday API key + Azure service principal or managed identity credentials.

Data sync

Xoxoday → ADLS Gen2, scheduled export.

Products

Available with Empuls, Plum, and Loyalife.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from data engineering, people analytics, and Azure platform teams evaluating the Azure Data Lake integration.

Available data includes Empuls recognition events, Plum reward sends and redemption events, and Loyalife point transaction logs. Contact your Xoxoday account team for full schema documentation and available event types.
Azure Data Factory is the natural choice for organisations already in the Azure ecosystem. Fivetran and Airbyte also support ADLS Gen2 as a destination and can pull from REST APIs like Xoxoday. A custom connector using the Xoxoday API is also an option for engineering teams.
The sync cadence is configured in your pipeline tool. Azure Data Factory supports both scheduled triggers (hourly, daily) and event-based triggers. Choose the cadence that fits your analytics pipeline and reporting requirements.
Yes. Once Xoxoday raw event files land in ADLS Gen2, your data engineering team can convert them to Delta Lake format using Azure Databricks or Synapse Spark. Delta format enables ACID transactions, time travel, and schema evolution on Xoxoday data.
Power BI connects to Xoxoday data in ADLS either through an Azure Synapse Analytics dataset (which surfaces ADLS data as SQL tables) or directly via Power BI's Azure Data Lake Storage connector. The Synapse route is recommended for complex joins with other enterprise datasets.
