Compare 10 employee perks and benefits platforms on benefit types, discounts and ratings. See where Empuls fits.

Picture an HR manager opening the benefits portal to see who used the gym discount last quarter. The answer is eleven people out of 900, and the vendor contract renews in March.

Perks and benefits platforms are easy to buy and hard to judge. A discount catalog, a lifestyle spending account and a benefits card all get the same label. They solve different problems and need different amounts of admin.

Employers still place a high value on benefits. SHRM's 2025 survey found 68% of employers rate flexible working benefits as very or extremely important, and 65% say the same of career development.

We compared 10 platforms on benefit types, perks depth, recognition, reach and admin effort. Each entry says who it suits. The order reflects how many of the five tests each platform covers, not a score.

Disclosure: Xoxoday publishes this guide and Empuls is one of the 10. All are judged on the same criteria.

What Makes the Best Perks and Benefits Platform?

Platforms in this category fall into two camps: discount portals and spending-account tools. A few try to do both.

We judged every platform on five tests:

  • Benefit types covered. Spending accounts, stipends, tax-advantaged accounts and voluntary benefits each need different plumbing. Check which ones the platform actually administers.
  • Perks and discount depth. A catalog only helps if employees find offers they will use, on a phone, where they shop.
  • Recognition and rewards. A perk lands better when it is tied to a moment. Platforms that connect benefits to recognition give HR one place to act.
  • Reach across locations. Languages, currencies and local tax rules decide whether a platform works outside one country.
  • Admin effort and reporting. Policy rules, claims handling, payroll sync and usage reports decide how much time HR spends each month.

Benefit types and admin effort carried the most weight, since they decide whether HR can run the program without extra headcount. Feature claims come from each vendor's public pages, written in our own words. Ratings come from G2 and Capterra as of October 2026 and change over time. Where a score rests on fewer than 20 reviews, we show the count.

What to Ask Before You Choose a Platform

Most comparisons skip the questions that decide whether a perks program gets used. Ask every vendor these four before you sign.

  • Which benefit types do you administer, and which do you only link to? A portal that links out to an insurer is not the same as one that handles claims.
  • Can you show usage by perk and by location after 90 days? If a vendor cannot report adoption, you cannot fix low use.
  • How does the platform handle taxes and payroll for stipends? Ask who decides taxable versus nontaxable treatment, and how it reaches payroll.
  • What happens for employees outside the main country? Ask for the catalog, language and currency a remote employee would actually see.

Which Perks and Benefits Platform Should You Choose?

If you want benefits, perks and recognition in one place, start with Empuls, Espresa and Compt. If your priority is tax-advantaged accounts on one card, look at Benepass. For discount-led programs, compare BenefitHub, PerkSpot, Perks at Work and LifeMart. Swile and WorkPerks by Venngo fit France and Canada respectively.
